Island Escape Cruises owns 20-year cruise permits from the NZ Government to explore the entire World Heritage Fiordland National Park. Virtually isolated with access by sea or helicopter, this region is beyond sensational and often described as the ultimate nature lovers paradise. We also cruise the world-famous Bay of Islands over Christmas and New Year during the NZ summer season.

Then, during the New Zealand winter, we relocate to the South Pacific where for three months we call Tahiti our home. Small ship voyages are perfect for this tropical paradise, with a casual while sophisticated french influence, first class activities and superb amenities. On leaving Tahiti, we venture out into the South Pacific with her thousands of gorgeous islands to explore at our comfortable pace and style. We return to New Zealand to enjoy the summer season in the beautiful Bay of Islands.

South Pacific

The peoples of Asia and Oceania have travelled the South Pacific since prehistoric times. The Eastern South Pacific was first sighted by Europeans in the early 16th century.

The ocean’s current name was coined by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan during his circumnavigation of the world in 1521, as he enjoyed favourable winds. He called it Mar Pacífico, which in Portuguese means ‘peaceful sea’.

Tahiti

Tahiti – the name alone builds images of the most romantic paradise. Tranquil turquoise waters with views of majestic peaks or seemingly endless stretches of magnificent white sand beaches. The islands of Tahiti are like nowhere else on earth. We call this home for three months each year.
