SECRETS OF THE INLAND SEA

OSAKA – HIROSHIMA
HIROSHIMA - OSAKA
6 Night Cruise

Like elsewhere in Japan, spring in Kansai means sakura or cherry blossoms and autumn is the incredible change of colours. These are obvious reasons to visit, but by no means the only reasons. The Inland Sea region is home to some 26 million people and we will show you a wide selection of this area and their fascinating lifestyle on this 6 night cruise.

We cruise to our nearby anchorage for the evening. Cocktails and dinner is served on the aft deck from 7pm. Become acquainted with your fellow shipmates and enjoy the stunning night views of the Osaka skyline.

Day 2 - Kyoto

After breakfast we disembark guests in Osaka to the care of our professional English-speaking Kyoto tour guides. Their comfortable coach takes you via the toll highway to arrive in historical Kyoto an hour later. We visit the three most famous sites of Fushimi Inari-Taisha Shrine, Kinkaku-ji Temple and finally Nijo Castle. Lunch is served along the way. Later in the afternoon the coach returns to Kobe Cruise Port where the ship has relocated during the day. The crew welcome you back aboard with hot towels, refreshments and pre-dinner snacks. While you freshen for dinner we sail quietly for Himeji. Be up on deck for the passage below the massive 2-kilometre Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge – the longest suspension bridge in the world.

Day 2 - Kyoto

Day 3 - Himeji

After breakfast we arrive at Himeji and go ashore to visit the 16th century World Heritage Himeji Castle. We have a guided tour of this national treasure and one of the few original feudal castles remaining in Japan. Returning to the ship for lunch, this afternoon you are free to explore the city at and her waterfront at leisure.

Day 3 - Himeji

Day 4 - Tomonoura

Today we cruise through an amazing display of saw-toothed shaped islands, stopping at a couple of our favourite bays and villages along the way to have a walk and feel the local way of life. We arrive late in the afternoon at Tomonoura and anchor in the bay. Take a tender ashore and stroll the waterfront before a gourmet dinner is served at 7pm on deck or indoors.

Day 4 - Tomonoura

Day 5 - Pearls and Sea Planes

After breakfast we continue through these beautiful islands, Tajima, Yokoshima, Innoshima and Hakata to name a few. At Onomichi we take a thrilling 50-minute seaplane flight over the area to view it from above. Visit a floating pearl farm where you can select your own pearl before we arrive at Nomi Island anchorage.

Day 5 - Pearls and Sea Planes

Day 6 - Miyajima

This is a picture perfect scarlet Torii gate at the entrance to the Itsukushima Shinto Shrine that was built in the 6th century and dedicated to the 3 sea goddesses. It is World Heritage and we explore it in detail. We complete the day with a cable car ride to Mt Misen for the spectacular views of the Inland Sea.

Day 6 - Miyajima

Day 7 - Hiroshima

We sail right into Hiroshima City and at 0900 transfer you to JR Hiroshima station. You are able to freely visit the Peace Memorial Park. The area is filled with memorials to the event and the permanently lit ‘Flame of Peace’. Nearby is the A-Bomb Dome as a striking reminder to the historical event. We wish you safe travel and look forward to see you back onboard on another of our small ship sailings.

Feedback

We had wonderful holiday supported by a great enthusiastic crew. The snorkelling, swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding in such a beautiful pristine part of the world was superb. An honourable mention must be made for the Chef extraordinaire, he was passionate about every one of his creations and he far exceeded all previous chefs you have had on-board.The crew ensured that we had the best anchorage each evening and allowed us to safely discover the unspoilt islands of French Polynesia. Thanks again
