Itinerary

On your dream-come-true summer cruise to the bay of Islands you’ll discover uninhabited sanctuary islands, watch dolphins at play, visit fascinating historic places and enjoy the best cuisine, served with endless sea views. You will be cruising to New Zealand’s summer playground for the rich and famous in style.

Day 1 - Auckland

You begin boarding the ship from 5pm alongside Princes Wharf. Once familiar with the ship and the safety drill is completed we sail at 6pm. We cruise past mysterious Rangitoto Island and you’ll learn about the island’s history as you sip a cocktail on the aft deck and become acquainted with fellow guests and your crew. Our first night is spent at Waiheke Island with a delicious dinner served from 7:30pm. Welcome to small ship Dream-Cruising at its best.

Day 1 - Auckland

Day 2 - Waiheke Island

Your Waiheke day could start with a refreshing swim off the back of the ship or sleep in until it’s time for a sumptuous breakfast on deck (with champagne if you fancy). Whatever you need to begin the day in a great mood. Later this morning we go ashore for wine tasting then a course is set for Great Barrier Island. We usually encounter large pods of dolphins who come to play on the bow along the way.

Day 2 - Waiheke Island

Day 3 - Great Barrier Island

Great Barrier is a wild and enchanting paradise with amazing stories to tell. Fitzroy harbour, on the sheltered side of the island, is one of the country’s most beautiful harbours. Great Barrier has a colourful history involving whaling, gold and silver mining, shipwrecks and alternative lifestyles. Today, we tour the island with local guides or explore the coastline in the landing craft with the chance to try your hand at fishing. We sail for the Bay of Islands after dinner. Find a quiet place on deck to see the brilliance of the pollution free night sky that delivers one of the most stunning star shows on the planet.

Day 3 - Great Barrier Island

Day 4 - Bay of Islands

You wake to the unspoilt and beautiful Oke Bay, an anchorage that will certainly tempt you for
a swim off the back of the ship. Dolphins often visit this bay so you will likely have another dolphin encounter here. The water is beautifully clear and swimming to the beach is always an option for fit guests. After lunch we visit some of our favourite bays and coves. Before the sun sets we move to our anchorage in Parekura Bay.

Day 4 - Bay of Islands

Day 5 - Bay of Islands

Today you’ll visit beautiful Motuarohia- Roberton Island, which you can explore in many different ways. snorkel in the sheltered lagoon, kayak around the bay or hike up to the historic Maori Pa site. From the summit you’ll be rewarded by blockbuster views of the entire bay of Islands. Later in the afternoon we’ll motor to Urupukapuka, the largest island in the bay, with a detour to our special spot to collect fresh green- lipped mussels for an afternoon snack. The sauvignon blanc is chilling and chef is determined to impress you, yet again. Watch the sunset while sipping a sundowner, then look forward to a night of indulgence with the captain’s dinner. We sail before midnight direct to Auckland.

Day 5 - Bay of Islands

Day 6 - Auckland

An early start with breakfast underway while we cruise the beautiful coastline. We arrive alongside Princes Wharf for disembarking at 1030. We wish you safe travels while we look forward to welcome you back onboard again.

Day 6 - Auckland

Feedback

Adventure Smith Explorations Advetntiure Specialist Andrew Browning reviews his Fiordland national park Cruise aboard the Island Passage. Read on for his expert review and photos.

The scenery in these remote sounds is stunning. We had some mornings with very calm waters deep in the fjords. Surrounding the narrow waterways are mountains, steep cliffs and waterfalls. Nearly every inch is covered with vegetation except for where landslides have swept it away. When you go out into the Tasman Sea to go between the fjords, there are a lot of sea birds, including albatross that tend to follow the ship, especially when fish are being caught. You can also sea dolphins, typically near Milford Sound. The dolphins like the Island Passage ship because of the catamaran dual hull. They like to swim in front of the ship riding in the water being pushed by the vessel. Fur seals can also be seen in some areas of Fiordland.
